akvárium v Chomutovském městském parku bylo postaveno v roce
1932. Tehdy zde bylo přes 94 druhů ryb, obojživelníků a plazů. V roce
1935 už je druhů více než 120 - plazi (především rody Lacerta, Natrix,
Elaphe či Coluber, ale i hroznýši, leguáni, teju, anolisi nebo hadokrčka
argentinská), obojživelníci (žáby, mloci, čolci), ryby, pavouci, štíři,
krabi... Později přibyl i bazének s vodními ptáky. Během války bylo
akvárium zavřené a znovu otevřené v roce 1947. V 60. letech byly
vystavěny venkovní expozice makaků rhesus, kočkodanů zelených, paviánů a
malých šelem. V roce 1972 byl celý park rekonstruován a tím skončilo i
akvárium coby chovné zařízení (rekonstruovaná budova je v parku dodnes).
V tomtéž roce byl otevřen Chomutovský zoopark (tehdy Lesopark).
